When you buy a Balance Phone or Balance Phone Pro, you get the hardware and Balance OS together in a single one-time purchase. The phone arrives ready to use, configured with Balance OS permanently linked to that device for its lifetime.

Balance OS as a standalone subscription works differently. You are purchasing access to the system, not the hardware. It installs on a compatible Samsung device you already own, and as long as your yearly subscription is active, Balance OS runs on it.

If you switch to a different compatible Samsung device, you can transfer the subscription to your new phone.

The core experience is identical across all three. The choice comes down to whether you want a complete, ready-to-go solution or prefer to bring your own hardware.

Most Samsung devices are compatible. The technical requirement is Android 11 or higher with Samsung Knox 3.4.1 or above.

One thing worth knowing before purchasing is that refurbished devices or phones with a modified IMEI may not be eligible.

Balance OS blocks the categories of apps and websites that are designed to keep you engaged without a clear endpoint: social media, video streaming, online gaming, gambling, pornography and dating apps. 

This covers both the apps themselves and the websites, so there is no way around it through the browser.

The logic behind what gets blocked is straightforward. A banking app has a purpose, you open it, do what you need, and close it. A social media feed has no end by design. That distinction drives every decision we make.

Everything else stays fully available. Messaging, navigation, banking, music, health, work tools, shopping, mobility apps and hundreds more all work normally.

Once Balance OS is set up, the restrictions cannot be removed, bypassed or weakened from the device by the user. 

Balance OS runs at the system level and continuously monitors itself, so if anything tries to interfere with how permissions are set, it catches and corrects it immediately. There is no developer mode shortcut, no factory reset that gets you around it. The restriction is not something added on top of the phone, it is the phone.

You cannot reduce what is blocked, but you can add restrictions. Balance OS is fully compatible with third party parental control and screen time apps, so if you want extra layers on top, like time limits on specific apps, location sharing or additional content filters, you can add those without any conflict.

Most tools try to manage the problem with limits: minutes, warnings, temporary blocks.

The issue is there’s always a way around them… and when you bypass them, you’re back where you started.
